The Damsel wonders what percentage of people prefer Ranch dressing over other types. She thinks it might be 99%, and she likes it quite a lot herself, even though she hates to be a lemming.
The Damsel just conducted a scientific poll, which consisted of asking her #3 sprog, who is a waitress, what percentage of customers order Ranch dressing. The sprog said 99% was high, but only a little. So there you have it. There’s something about that Ranch.
Did you know you can make your own–and we’re not talking about the little Hidden Valley envelope you buy at the store? Scratch ranch. It’s easy and yummy.
Take one cup of mayo and plop it in a bowl. Use store bought if you must, but why not make the mayo? It will only take two more minutes. Click here for directions. This recipe makes just the right amount.
Add one cup buttermilk. It’s ridiculously easy to make your own. Click here to see how.
Add one teaspoon each of the following:
- onion salt
- garlic salt (or fresh minced garlic)
- parsley, fresh or dried
- chopped chives, fresh or dried
- dill, fresh or dried
- salt
- pepper
- adjust salt to taste…and add other herbs if you want. There’s no law.
Mix well and refrigerate for an hour or more if you can stand it. The dressing will thicken and the flavor will intensify. It will go from “Hey, not bad” to “Wow!”
Cheap! Good! Start dipping that celery right now, because you know celery’s reason for existence is to be a Ranch dressing carrier to your mouth.
