It’s the Old School’s 1st birthday.

The Damsel is grateful her students haven’t transferred out of class as of yet. In fact, the Old School has grown and grown. Could it be because the Damsel allows chewing gum in class? That’s correct, go right ahead.

She’d like to say thank you to the thousands who have stopped by.

To celebrate, the Damsel is holding a little old giveaway. Remember the Vermont cookie cutters? The winner gets to choose from any of the 4 or 5 piece sets, or you can pick your own assortment of 4.

To enter, simply reply to this post and tell the Damsel which Old School post you like the best (or which one you’ve used the most.)

Extra entries (optional): 1. Go to Ann Clark Cookie Cutters and list your favorite shape.

2. Follow the Old School on Google FriendConnect. (The widget is in the right sidebar.) If you’re already a follower, please remind the Damsel of that fact since she has swiss-cheese brains.

The giveaway will end Wednesday at 10 PM MST. and announced on Thursday.

Have fun!

what if I just love them all? I can’t choose. Just know I would follow you anywhere.

    Hi Damsel -

picking only one post? Not sure I can do that – much of what you’ve written is helpful to me. :) I love your old school cooking posts – shortcuts in the kitchen, like cake flour and brown sugar. But then again, I also enjoy your memoirs – the way you look back on raising your sprogs. ;)

I think the cookie cutter set I like the most is the Texas set – not b/c I live in TX or am from there, but because I know just who I’d like to give them to. :)

I’m not a Google friend, but I do have you RSS’d in my reader – does that count? ;)

Every post is a true gem, just like the Damsel herself. But I have used popcorn and making your own brown sugar like a million times! You now know what my diet consists of. I am also a follower, of course!

Oh, and the crown cookie cutter is a my favorite!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, bloggalicious!

Well, you can’t just go and ask what was my favorite! That’s just not fair! Okay…let me try. I don’t need each thing in it’s own comment, right?? I hope not. Let me know if I do though and I’ll separate them.

Favorite post? Well, I could say it’s the one where you have the picture of sprog #3 I took on it. That’s pretty cool, after all. To have my picture on a famous blog. :^) For real though, it would honestly have to be your “Rainy Days” post. I know that’s not a typical one, but it’s the one that meant the most to me. If it has to be a regular post then I’d pick the gabage disposal cleaner one.

My favorite shape would also have to be the crown. In fact, I’ve got my 4 shapes I’d pick all ready for when I win because I had to do a combination of ones K would like and ones I liked. After all…if I win then you don’t have to spend any money on shipping. I’ll drop by the cottage and pick them up. Does that count for another vote?? ;^)

And I know I followed you somehow and I’m pretty sure it was through Google Reader. If not, I NEED to know so I can post an extra comment after and get an extra vote.

And, there you have it. LOL

    • Tena

I am SO disappointed in you. There was a lighthouse and you didn’t pick it as your favorite. You must have let the princess choose for you. ;-)

  • http://helenpetersen.blogspot.com Hel

ooh… does the competition reach all the way to Australia? I think I have a few favourite posts. The one that I was really excited about was how to make your own dishwasher detergent. I was really excited when I ran out of the store bought stuff and remembered your post.

I love reading all your posts and while I am useless at commenting usually, I thought I’d come out of hiding and say Happy Birthday! What a fantastic blog you’ve put together.

I just had a look at the cookie cutters. I think I like the princess one as well as the teapot one. They are cute!

I have you in my feed reader under “people I actually enjoy reading” ;D

  • 7mooses

bakin’ bacon or the drain cleaning/weed killing one
I have several moose cookie cutters, so I’m loving the maple leaf and the squirrel!
But I can’t win because I don’t know about being a Google Follower and I’m too lazy to read your post about the different ways to follow you and I’m too lazy to make rolled sugar cookies as another post teaches, so no cookie cutters for me!

  • http://bayoandvane.blogspot.com/ Vanessa

I love them all, but if I had to pick one it would be the wiggily carrot, it has saved tons of carrots in my house :)

I loved the post on the uses for coffee filters! It is the one that prompted me to link a feed to your site when I stumbled onto it. I really enjoyed your sense of humor and irony. I enjoy reading every article the day it’s posted.
I don’t make cookies typically but I really liked the cactus.

  • http://mercyandjustus.blogspot.com Heidi

I love reading your posts…you CRACK ME UP! You’re witty and fun, not to mention so stinkin’ smart! One thing I’ll always remember is the post about nose hairs. It really hit home with me; I loved what you said and how you said it.

Also, I love your recent post about cutting fruit into flower shapes. I just happen to be throwing a flower-themed shower in about two weeks, and can you guess how we’ll be serving our fruit?!?

    Thank You!!!

  • jamie

I am a new reader. My sister thought I’d like your homemade cream of chicken soup post and she was right, I do! Thank you! :)

  • http://gaining-miette.blogspot.com Miette

I don’t think I’m eligible for the giveaway but who cares? I’m going with the Texas set. Surprised, right?
The post I use the most is the buttermilk pancakes recipe, Although, that could also apply to the buttermilk post. LOL! At least once a week I replenish my buttermilk stock and once a week I make buttermilk pancakes.
    You rock!

WooHoo! Let the merriment begin! Congratulations on the big birthday..may it be the first of many! I have been following you and your lessons. There are many favorites..I am pretty sure we are soul sisters! BUT the one post that I have read, laughed and used was the cleaning of the dishwasher (dec?)..and other things. Thanks to you, Tang and Lemonade Koolade are being used for their cleaning power..who knew they were so powerful! Not to mention yummy smelling! I am also planning on using the cream of chicken soup lesson that was recently posted! Keep up the awesome lessons dear Damsel…I look forward to each and every one of them!

Wow ummm….. gosh, you have so many good ones! I’m thinking the brown sugar was was pretty sweet. No pun intended. Okay, maybe just a little. But the raspberry one was helpful too!

Love the cookies cutter! Even though I stink at making sugar cookies.

[hand high in the air] Oo, oo, oo! Pick me! Pick me! I like the post on pruning raspberries. I have such high hopes of one day planting something in my yard besides weeds, though I’ve much success with the weeds. I think I like the Linzer Cookie Cutter.

  • Rachel

Which one, which one…well I think the cream of chicken soup post will have to be the one I chose because I was wanting to know that very thing and that is how I discovered this amazing “Old School”! Thanks so much, Damsel!

  • Rachel

OK, my favorite cookie cutter shape would have to be the Maple leaf. It was hard to decide after looking at all of the many alluring options, but I’ve been wanting a good maple leaf shape cookie cutter for several years now and haven’t had any luck finding just the right one until now.

I love many of your posts. The most recent one that I enjoy is the homemade cream of chicken soup. But I also like other substitutions.

My favorite cookie cutter is the dragonfly.

    I’m also I follower.

Well Let me see, I have made butter with my kiddos and that was super fun. Then in October we roasted pumpkin seeds after seeing you make it look easy (but gooey). I made pumpkin puree and Loved it. I even tried the homemade mayo but that did not turn out for me. Love your site and love learning about Old School ways. Next to try are the biscuits you say are super easy!

  • http://www.justdevinestyle.blogspot.com Tara @Just Devine Style

Wow way too many cookie cutters to choose from I was awe struck at the selection. I would have to say the Green thumb set would be wonderful to have.

Let me see, I am using your granola post this week to make granola, so that must be my favorite. I already follow you, so that is two. I’ll have to comment again when I have time to check out the available shapes to get my third.

Happy birthday (even if I don’t chew gum EVER).

I’ve loved all your post but I like the one with the cream of chicken soup the best!!! Keep up the great work and thaks for letting us chew gum ;o)

  • Renee

Ohhhh my…..I have to make a decision, I love the pancake post, that’s how I learned to make pancakes with my Grandma and almost identical recipe…..making butter and buttermilk on the “To DO” list…

But drain cleaning is the one I’ve used most, it took several applications but old drains are now happy drains.

  • Shelly

Hmmm…..I would say that it was your raspberry freezer jam post. That is what brought me to your site and I have stayed with you ever since. Love it!

  • Ben Hovley

Damsel I like the fact that you get people to try new things, or new old things. There is a lot in our past that we fail to pass on. I imagine with your talk of your cottage and your sprogs and also your knight. That I might be walking into a Thomas Kincaid painting. Congratulations on 1 year and my favorite was the giant sunflower seeds. I also like the snow flake cookie cutter.
