homemade detangler

Moms and kids have hated the hair-combing ritual since ancient times.

and in many lands.

The Damsel likes how this mom has sort of got her kid trapped on her lap in order to do the deed. The Damsel has used this move herself.

It’s true that some types of hair are harder to come out than others.

Baby-fine hair can be bad. Curly, fuzzy hair can be bad. But thankfully, we live in modern times when there is such a thing as “detangler.”

The Damsel bought this by the bucketful back in the day, to use on her darling daughter’s curly hair. There were some difficult moments. The Damsel is grateful that now this daughter is 25, she’s been combing her own hair for years.

It’s easy to make your own detangler, which thing the Damsel never supposed until it was everlastingly too late.

Simply commandeer an empty spray bottle. Fill it 1/4 full of conditioner, then top off with water. Shake well before using.  Go easy–a little goes a long way.

For a particularly bad snaggle, try rubbing a small bit of full-strength conditioner into the spot. Sometimes, the conditioner will make the hair strands slippery enough to untangle them.

Sometimes.

There’s always scissors.

Will this work for my hair too? I don’t know what’s going on. My hair has been so tangly lately.

The Damsel heard a rumor that overuse of the Snuggie can cause hair tanglement. She won’t go as far as to recommend cutting back on Snuggie usage, but she might gently suggest you reduce rubbing your head on it. Just put it on. Zip it up. Leave it alone.

My hair is curly and very fine. It was a nightmare when I was young, and my mother knew nothing of detangler. Though my husband also has wavy hair, our daughter’s hair is stick straight and has never tangled. Ever.

You know how Sleeping Beauty’s fairy godmothers blessed her with beauty and grace? I think Kristin’s fairy godmother blessed her with detangled hair. And I thank her for it every day.

This is awesome! Thanks! I especially love the scissors. Who needs detangler when you have scissors?

“Why didn’t I think of that?!” I’m going to do this…stick straight, fine hair on a tender head means we go through detangler like water! This is definately a great money saving option!

What?!? Once again you’ve knocked me off my seat with how easy something is. I’m making my own detangler this time, we use it almost daily.

This really does work well! I have used it before. It is especially great if you use the empty bottle from a purchased kids detangler. . . you know a cute one your daughter picked out for her very own. It is worth the initial expense of that first purchase.

There’s always scissors…or pinking shears! I’d be lying if I said I’d never had pinking shears used on me out of frustration. My mom really put the fun in dysfunctional!

Who knew? I just bought me a big ole bottle of detangler. Now I can make my own. Although my three year old is on the verge of a buzz-cut. (She probably won’t be happy about that though)
