The Damsel wonders if she is the last girl on earth to figure this out, after years of swiping the Knight’s shaving cream.

Hair conditioner works really well as a leg shaving cream. And if you do it this way, it’s pretty much free if you normally use conditioner on your hair anyway.

  1. Wash you hair as usual.
  2. Put conditioner on your hair, but don’t rinse.
  3. While your hands still are all conditioner-y, rub them on one leg and shave.
  4. Rub your hands in your hair again, recoating them with conditioner. Rub on your other leg and shave.
  5. Rinse your hair.

Bonus: Your conditioner sits in your hair a little longer, like the bottle says, but you rarely take the time to do.

The only way this could be cheaper is to shave your legs the European way. In other words, just go rugged.

I totally snorted at that rugged comment. HAHAHA. Good tip. I usually use Dove soap. But this makes much better frugal sense.

This is so great…no you aren't the last one. I am :)

My gramma used to tell us to use the shampoo suds from washing our heads as body wash. I use a rechargeable electric razor myself. Although, the regular one's results definitely last longer. I'll definitely keep this in mind if I end up using a regular one again!

You know, I've tried the conditioner, and don't love it. I really only use those razors that are already encased in soap. But they are kind of pricey.

Brilliant…I wonder if certain conditioners work better than others. This might require some experimentation…

My hubby has been shaving (his face/not his legs:) for years w/ conditioner it started because there was always some that somebody didn't like and he is very frugal and not wanting to waste and he said it was better that shaving cream

So he doesn't shave his legs? snort

Shaved with conditioner in a pinch, but never thought of saving money doing it that way! BTW the homemade detangler works GREAT!! Thanks for that tip. Saving me a TON of money!

I’ve been using conditioner for years! I like it much better than shaving cream actually. I find it softens the skin and hair and cuts back on in-growns. Marvelous!

Nope, you're not the last person to figure this out. I am! Thanks for sharing this tip.

Hooray! I do this already. But out of necessity not frugality. It is an unfortunate part of my heritage (one tiny little line) that I got really coarse hair and I have found conditioner helps soften the hair before I take my weed hacker to it. Then my shaving rash isn't so angry afterwards.

Rugged? I love that visual. :) Great idea, once again.

Is shampoo ok to use for shaving as well? Or just conditioner?

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/the_damsel the_damsel

Try both and see which you like best. I think either would work. Some people like conditioner better because it's made to soften hair, and for some people, that makes shaving easier.

Thank goodness there's no shaving police! hahaha

This is a great tip. Thanks!

Your blog is total enchantment, kinda like Dorathy finding the Yellow Brick Road. I've been "old school" all my life but you have some new ideas. I'll be following you. A very worthy blog.

I have been doing this for years. It works out for me to use a little extra out of the bottle. Since I use conditioner and my husband doesn't (but we both use shampoo) it helps to equal out the amount used so I can always be ready to buy my shampoo and conditioner in a set.

Don't like to go rugged LOL and I don't like the smell of hubby's shave cream. I use conditioner when I am out of my shave cream. But it never dawned on me to shgave while I had conditioner in my hair. Good tip.

I actually shave my legs after I take a shower and use the lotion that I am going to put on my legs anyway. It makes my legs feel all nice and moisturized, as well as save me money since I put lotion on anyway. If I shaved in the shower, I would totally use conditioner! Great idea!!! Thanks for sharing.

I would just like to remind all visitors from the America's that not ALL us Europeans go rugged. In little old Britain we are VERY anti ruggedness! LOL

    • the_damsel

      teehee…good reminder.

  • jennahsgarden

I do this sometimes when I have some condition I don't like. But what I like even better is baby oil! My legs break out if I use perfumey stuff (often in hair conditioner), but baby oil is super cheap and works great. If you can find it, creamy baby oil (kind of like a lotion) is even better. Baby oil gel sounds good in theory, but tends to clog up the razor.

    • the_damsel

      neato!

  • Zinnia

Lol! Rugged is natural, I'm a complete no shave girl and no shampoo or conditioner either, bi-carb and vinegar do the job perfectly. Minimize waste and the amount of chemicals that go on your body!

    • the_damsel

I've been hearing a lot about no-poo and wish I was brave enough to try it.
