You’ll notice at the bottom of each post there is now a little green box with an elephant head that says “Remember.”

What’s that all about?

Click that button, and the post will be “remembered” for you by a free service called Evernote. If you haven’t heard of Evernote, sit yourself down and listen, because the Damsel is a fan. An unpaid, uncompensated fan, but devoted all the same. She just loves this thing and wants you to have it in your life.

Evernote is kind of like a bookmarking thing, except a whole lot better. When you save a webpage to Evernote, it stores a screenshot of the page both on your computer and on an online server. You can then go back and see your saved page, in all its colorful wholeness, whether you are online or offline, at your computer or any internet-enabled computer. There are mobile versions, too, for iPhone, Android, etc. which means you can pretty much take your pretty little web clippings with you everywhere you go, because all the versions automatically sync with each other. How can this be free? It’s so cool.

The neat thing about it is that the clippings are indexed and searchable by any word they contain, so you can find them again really easily. It even recognizes words that are within a picture. For example, if you clipped the cartoon from the Damsel’s last post, you could find it again by searching on the word “barking” even though that word is within an image.

The Damsel constantly runs across websites with things that catch her eye–stuff she’d like to look into, but doesn’t have time at the moment. She clicks a button, and it goes safely into Evernote, where it waits on her pleasure. If that clip happened to be a recipe, the Damsel can get to the list of ingredients while at the store via her smart phone.

So, when you click the little elephant box, if you aren’t a current user, it will take you to a quick sign up thing, and there you go. The page will be saved, and you’ll be able to remember it. As in, an elephant never forgets.

Plus, whenever you click that box in the future, it will display for you all the other clips you’ve made from that domain, so you can “remember” what you’ve already got. And well, there’s a lot of good stuff to remember at the Old School.

See why the Damsel loves Evernote? It’s cool.

Ohhh, I am going to be looking into this. Especially for the recipe part, (or the cleaning the house parts!). Thanks for introducing me!

Fantastic! Evernote came pre-installed on my computer but I never tried it out and didn’t even know what it was. Thanks for another great post.

What a great idea. Totally beats the bookmark folder “things to try” that I have.

Your review of this is awesome. Seriously, what person does not need help remembering?? (Ok. Maybe someone whose brain has not been fried by children.)

BRILLIANT!!! I’m tempted to go to all my bookmarks and see if I can switch them over.
