How to make oatmeal wrong

Put real food in your mouth, okay? This is the Damsel’s wish.

McDonald's has oatmeal? Why in the name of all that's holy would someone go to a fast food place for oatmeal? Mmm, love the steel cut kind with brown sugar and whole milk.

When I went to Bostonin late December, I grabbed McD's oatmeal and it was so disgusting!!!!! I'm afraid to click on the link and find out why!
    I couldn't resist, I clicked, I read, I regret!

The most insidious thing is that places like McD warp our taste buds — particularly kids — so that they "prefer" the gunk over actual food.

How sad that McD's needs to add so many things to their food. It makes the 'treat' of eating out scary instead of fun.

Oh Wow! That is amazing and rolls my stomach.

    Gross, but not surprising!

That makes me sad. Also now I'm wondering if I should check what my kids' favorite maple and brown sugar oatmeal has in it. I don't want to check, I think. Although I have been considering just making it from scratch…

Do it! And let me know how it goes.

    Urgh!

I just bought steel cut oats the other day and I'm now feeling the need to cook up some proper oatmeal!

  • the_damsel

Love them. I was surprised how different they are from regular rolled oats. I have to switch off because I love them both. (and rolled oats are way cheaper and faster to cook)

I heard about the oatmeal being a total joke, but hadn't read about it til now. And yep, it's a joke alright. Sigh.

Mark Bittman is one of my foodie heroes! He tells it like it is. I LOVE that he e-mailed McDonalds to ask them WHY?!
