It’s really heating up here at the Cottage By The Mountains.
Would you rather be too cold or too hot?
The Damsel ponders these little mysteries of life at odd moments. If you’re too cold, you can always put on a sweater, right? Or two? And even a coat. But if you’re too hot, you can take off a certain amount of clothing and then, well, you come to a point where you just can’t take anything else off.
And you’re still hot.
You can resort to eating frozen food. That sort of helps.
Which brings us to another little mystery of life. In the village where the Damsel lives, there are an abundance of shaved ice shops. These are places that sell frozen water with a little flavoring added for an extraordinary amount of shekels. In spite of the cost, people line up for these treats. The Damsel has personally endured quite a lot of whining from her sprogs about this, and can she just say, Whuuut. She fails to see the balance of expenditure vs. benefit.
Especially when you can easily make your own.
If you have a blender that’s up to it, or some other ice shaving gadget, you’re almost there. It’s ridiculously easy to make your own shaved ice syrup. Put a cup of water in a pot and heat it on the stove, adding two cups of sugar. Add a packet of powdered drink mix (such as Kool-Aid). Bring to a boil and then remove from heat.
That is all.
If you have an old bottle hanging around with a squeeze top, this could very well be your perfect syrup applicator.
The Damsel still gets whining because you know it’s not the same when it’s served in a glass from the kitchen cupboard instead of those cunning little paper cone cups. To this she can only say, Whuuut.
